  • Why an e-commerce business needs landing pages
  • What are the best practices for shopify landing pages

Selling your products online is far from being a walk in the park – especially if your branch is broad and full of competition. But fear not! You can make it significantly easier by using proper marketing tools – like Shopify – as well as by promoting your goods with landing pages. And the best way to build a successful e-commerce environment is to mix these two. Get to know how to create the best landing pages for Shopify with Landingi!

First things first – running your e-commerce business

On the very beginning of your e-commerce journey, you need to choose the platform for it. Since you’re reading this article I’ll assume that you went with Shopify. But if you’re still in a crossroads with this one, take a look at the essential guide to choosing an ecommerce platform. It may help you make the right move.

I wouldn’t expect any problems with that nowadays, but do pay attention to integrations. If an e-commerce platform doesn’t offer them, or if it doesn’t support other platforms you’re using, it’s a huge no. Integrating an e-commerce platform with customer service, marketing or logistic solutions is essential to create a fully-functional working environment.

Now it’s time to actually open your e-shop on the platform of choice. Add some products, divide them into categories, design the store to make it easy to navigate and intuitive for you future customers. Take some time to create converting product pages – make all crucial data visible and be sure to present your products in the best possible way. But how to do this? Simply – use landing pages. Here’s how and why.

Why on Earth do you need landing pages for e-commerce?

The same reason you need fuel for your vehicle. You can play some music inside and make your neighbours jealous just for having it parked in a driveway (if it looks nice), but without petrol you’re not going anywhere with it, so what’s the point? Ok, maybe I’m a bit exaggerating, but really, landing pages are what can really crank up your e-shop engine. Let’s start with some basics.

Landing pages are better than websites

That’s a fact. It’s a thing we can’t deny, like the fact that they are simpler and thus more approachable for your visitors. This is mainly because of landing pages’ remarkable feature – being oriented for a single goal. In this case: selling a product.

Let’s take a look at simple example and try to spot the difference between a product page in online store and a landing page:

headphones comm

It’s not that hard, isn’t it?

The product page is meant to include all information about the product by definition. Full tech specs, dimensions, certificates and so on. Landing page, on the other hand, has to show only what’s important from marketing point of view. Include some pictures, a video maybe, and let the content team do all the work.

Why? Because they have to do everything it takes to earn visitors’ interest with engaging and SEO friendly copy, which should lead to a payment (or many payments in the following months).

There’s more you can use landing pages for – one of the most popular purposes is using them for special offers and limited time discounts. Every summer, Black Friday or Holiday sale will work better with dedicated landing page.

All this sounds rather easy, but knowing what needs to be done isn’t enough. After learning why it’s good to have landing pages, you’ve to learn exactly how to create the best landing pages for Shopify in order to achieve real success and earn real money. No point in further waiting – let’s find out!

Find a proper tool to create e-commerce landing pages

Building a landing page for e-commerce purpose requires an idea, a little bit of free time and a tool. Let’s reverse the order and start with getting access to a powerful landing page builder.

Once you’ve decided to build landing pages for your e-shop, you may create them directly in-platform or find a landing page builder which integrates with it. Although there are some Shopify website templates available inside the tool, they may turn out to be not enough for your needs. Luckily, there’s one builder right under your nose:

How to create a Shopify landing page?

Working on a Shopify landing page starts with a product or service which it’s supposed to sell. After choosing one, you’ll place every single element on your page to make it work well with the product. But there are so many things you’ve got to consider and so many possible mistakes to make, that coming up with some kind of plan seems to be a good idea.

Shopify landing page best practices

Let’s begin with some good practices that will set the right direction for further work:

A) Make it Simple

If there’s one idea you should stick to while creating your e-commerce landing page, it’s simplicity. No matter how complex your product is, do whatever you want to present it in a simplest way you can imagine.

Keep in mind that there’s someone at the other side of the screen – someone who’s not necessarily familiar with your product. So keep it simple, but don’t avoid explaining most important things.

B) Keep the Design Cohesive

Let’s say that the user visits a landing page because he clicked a link in a Facebook Ad. What I want to say is that both the ad and the landing page should share the design, they are supposed to look similar to avoid confusion.

Take a look at your browser tab bar – how many times a day you open a new one in the background and forget about it? Keeping the design cohesive makes it easy for them to associate the landing page with the ad seen before.

C) Start with Catchy Headline

If your landing page’s a book, then the headline is a cover. You know what they say about not judging the book, but the fact is, we all do this every now and then. To make a good first impression on your visitors, treat the headline as its the most important thing you’ll ever say to them.

Remember that it usually takes no more than 3 seconds to decide, if the landing page is interesting enough to stay on it. Usually it’s enough, because if the headline is boring, then there’s little to no chance that the rest of a page will turn the tide. D) Include High-quality Visuals

A landing page design has to be fulfilled with great visuals – high quality (and original, if it’s possible) photos and videos. Say a big no to stock images – their only pro is that they are easy to get, nothing more. The internet is literally flooded with all-the-same pictures, which is a terrible trend from both users and search engines point of view.

High-quality visuals means professional, original pictures and videos showing your real products and your company, not some random dudes from the internet.

Quick reminder: image and video compression is your friend! High resolution ≠ high quality and in case of landing pages, it’s better to upload smaller, lower resolution photos to reduce the load time. Check out this super-packed infographic for more!

E) Competitive Content

So you have a design, a headline, some pictures and/or a video. Now it’s time to say something about the product. What is it? How users would benefit from it? Why is it the best choice for them? What makes it special? The thing is, you have to answer all these questions in no more than a few sentences.

Focus on most important facts and benefits to keep your visitors interested and to convince them to your product. Try to bullet-list all the catchy features, but feel free to skip less important ones – you can mention them on product page, where you’ll have to include all information about the product.

F) Straightforward CTA

A Call to Action is one of the most important element of your e-commerce landing page. Basically, hitting the CTA button means that a landing page did its job. Make it happen by creating a short, straightforward CTA.

There are some different types of CTA on landing pages, but in case of shopify landing page you’ll pretty much always need something like “buy now”, “place an order” and such.

G) Testimonials / Social Proof

You’re not the only one who loves your product – show it to the world! If you’ve got any positive feedback about this particular product you’re selling, your shop or your company in general, let them see it! Ask your customers to write a few words or get the permission to use their previous opinions on your landing page.

A social proof is extremely powerful under one serious condition – it has to be real! Don’t risk with fake testimonials. Apart from that just being an asshole-move and a fraud, you can lose much, much more company credibility than you think.

H) A/B Testing

You could’ve thought that your with the shopify landing page is done once it’s published. There are some things that are farther from the truth, but not many. The landing page can (and should!) be improved constantly via A/B testing.

How it works? Change one element in your landing page (i.e. a button, a headline or background image) and run test. Two variants of your landing page will go live and after some time you could compare them to see, which one performs better (generates more conversions).

Shopify landing page creation process

It’s time to present the actual landing page creation process. Of course, it will look differently, depending on what platform you use. I’ll show you how to build Shopify landing page in Landingi.

1) Create an account

In case you didn’t do it before, go to landingi.com/register and set up your new account. Don’t worry – there’s a 14-day trial with no credit card required. Just start testing with no commission!

2) A man with a plan

To make your efforts worthwhile and effective, start working on a landing page with a simple scheme. Technically, you can act without any plan, but that will make much harder to keep things under control. Besides, any mistake made while coming up with a plan can be corrected in the blink of an eye. During landing page creation every change will take much more time. Also, problems tend to multiply, so why shouldn’t we try to nip them in the bud?

What should you include in your landing page plan? An offer (specific product or service), a target audience, copy (headline, CTA, benefits), images and videos. As you might notice, I didn’t include a target here – that is because shopify landing pages are usually created in one purpose – to sell products. But, of course, if you have other ideas, give them a try!

3) Pick a template

shopify landing page templates

Just to be clear: no one’s saying that you can’t create a landing page starting with a blank page, but using templates usually makes it faster and easier. If you’re still not convinced, take a look at our templates library with over 200 propositions!

4) Edit template

And here’s where the fun begins! Once you’ve picked the template, a Landingi editor shows up. Let’s take a look at it:

Landingi editor

There are four main spaces you’ll be working with visible on the screen:

Left sidebar – every element you’d like to place on your landing page can be found there. Just drag from the left sidebar and drop it to…

Workspace – here you can build and customize your landing page any way you like. Move, stack, resize any element. For further editing options go to…

Right sidebar – after selecting an element in a workspace, additional editing options will appear on the right side of the screen. Besides, there are some page settings available, such as page width or device visibility.

Upper bar  – it contains an undo button, copy elements option, a thank you page tab and an option to switch between desktop and mobile view.

Change the headline, paste your own images, move and edit every element, create a form, add or remove sections and finish it all with catchy CTA – all these options are available in a few clicks. And – back to the plan thing – if you have them prepared already, it won’t take you more than a couple of minutes.

Important: don’t forget to integrate your Shopify with Landingi account – it will allow you to include Shopify button to your landing pages – let your visitors buy directly from landing page!

5) Check, proofread and publish

Check your landing page and then ask someone to check it after you. Thanks to Landingi you can publish your work on a test domain – just hit the green “Publish!” button and copy the link you receive.

6) Optimize

One more thing to remember is: a landing page is never ready. It’s never complete nor perfect. After you publish it, there are numbers of options you may use to optimize it and make it perform even better. Use Google Analytics to measure traffic on your landing page and discover its pain points. Run some A/B Tests to check, which element converts better. Include new popups by Landingi on your landing pages to encourage visitors to stay a little longer and perform the desired action.

As you can see, there are plenty of ways in which you can improve your shopify landing page. Don’t hesitate to use them for your advantage, because one of them (or – most probably – all of them) may become a real game changer for your landing page and, consequently, sales.

Conclusion

Landing pages for your e-commerce business are a must have. Use them to present products, show some special offers and – most importantly – to sell. After all, that’s what you really need them for.
